I always start my mornings with a glass of either lemon or lime water (I like to alternate between the two) combined with anything else I have in my fridge, it could be anything from ginger, sliced cucumbers to mint. It’s essentially vitamin infused water, and is the best way to kick-start your day.
It hydrates and oxygenates the body, leaving it feeling refreshed and revitalized for quite some time. As opposed to coffee, whose effects are short lived. Perhaps the biggest benefit of drinking lemon/lime water is that it helps to maintain your body in an alkaline state. Interestingly, while lemon and lime juice themselves are acidic, they are both actually some of the most alkaline foods available.
I like to drink mine with warm/luke warm water (be careful not to have the water to hot though as this will destroy some of the enzymatic properties) as I find it more nourishing and cleansing for the body.
My favourite combination at the moment is my chlorophyll gingered lemonade, it is super nutritious and detoxifying for the body. And as well as tasting good it is also great for fighting off cold and flu like symptoms. The benefits are endless and with the addition of chlorophyll it can’t get more alkalising than this!
Below is the recipe for my chlorophyll gingered lemonade, but feel free to change it up a bit, the combinations are endless!
- 2 lemons
- 1 inch chunk of ginger
- 2 pieces of turmeric
- 30ml liquid chlorophyll
- 5-10 drops of stevia (depending on how sweet you like it)
- 800ml water
Juice the lemons, ginger and turmeric, and then mix with the rest of the ingredients 🙂
